Pulse Doppler Radar
The Pulse Doppler Radar (Radio Ranging And Detection) is a further improvement. It applies the priciple of the doppler effect and uses this to calculate the direction and speed of the other aircraft's movement. This is crucial as it gives and idea as to what kind of a plane is going to be intercepted or how fast the "enemy" aircraft are likely to reach their targets.
The Pulse Doppler Radar plays an important role in modern radar systems of planes. It has helped by calculating the time before an aircraft, like an airliner, is likely to collide with a mountain and warns the pilot to raise altitude.
Further, it plays an important role in AWAC systems.
