F/A-18 Hornet [American]
The F/A-18 Hornet was actually a project undertaken so as to provide the US Navy with a better but cheaper replacement of the F-14 Tomcat, but turned out to be an even more expensive jet. Mainly carrier-based, this fighter-cum-attack (the designation 'F' and 'A') aircraft performs extremely well. For the 21st century, the US Navy opted for an advanced version of the Hornet - the Super Hornett, instead of a new jet. This desion was taken despite the development of the F-22 Raptor, because they did not want to end up spending more like in case of the F/A-18 Hornet.
